• cameraman directs talent
• can use props
• mise-en-scene(everything in the shot of scene)-lighting, body position, facial expression, clothes, makeup and props, proxemics, camera angles

Advantages:

• can be manipulated
• guarantee of high quality

Disadvantages:

• Can look too forced
• Time consuming
• Expensive
• Need lots of equipment-props, makeup, cameras, etc

Impromptu shots

• unplanned shots

Advantages:

• more personality/feeling from image
• live action- you can always get the unexpected

Disadvantages:

• can’t be directed
